A large leaved Veronica with dark green oval leaved with reddish margins, and a prominent red midrib. Large crimson-red/magenta flowers make Veronica speciosa one of the most decorative naturally occurring New Zealand Shrubs. Grow in full sun or shady positions. Will tolerate a variety of soil types, but does well receiving reasonable moisture. Can be frost tender.
Pre-European plantings found as far as Marlbourgh Sounds. Leaves are 5 – 10 cm long and up to 4.7 cm wide. Its flower is an inflorescence up to 8 cm long. Typically occurs on sea cliffs or similar positions. Flowers throughout year. Give a light pruning after summer flowering.
