Endemic. Naturally distributed between Northland down to Nelson growing in coastal to lowland forest. Fast growing shrub or small tree up to 6m tall with glossy green leaves ideal for mixed plantings.
Titoki foliage, composed of three leaflets at the end of along stalk, has a citrus smell when the leaves are crushed. Small yellowish green flowers develop in early spring followed by clusters of dry brown capsules which contain black shiny seeds in late summer. Young branches are pale yellow-green and slender. Wharangi can be frost tender but will handle most conditions with sun and semi-shade.
